Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 11 January 2015) was a Swedish actress in American and European films, renowned for her beautiful and stunning body. Her iconic character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) has made her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29 September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. As a teenager, Anita worked as a fashion model. In response to the wishes of her mother, Ekberg took part in Miss Malmo in 1950. The result was that she won the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not speaking much English and a little Swedish, she traveled to the United States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in the year 1951, the pageant became official in 1952). Ekberg wasn't the Miss Universe winner, but she was one of six finalist. She did , however, earn a contract with Universal Studios as a starlet. As a starlet at Universal, she received lessons in elocution, drama horses, dancing and fencing. The film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as the woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
