Renee Kathleen Zellweger

Renee Kathleen Zellweger was born on the 25th of April 1969, in Katy, Texas, Her mother Kjellfridirene (Andreassen) is a former nurse from Norway and midwife, with Norwegian, Kven (Finnish), and Swedish descent. Her father, Emil Erich Zellweger, is an engineer born in Switzerland. The couple got married in 1963. Drew Zellweger was Renee's older brother. He is an executive in the field of marketing who was born on February 15, 1967. Renee began her interest in acting during high school as she worked in the drama club. She also took an acting class at University of Texas (Austin), where she began looking to pursue a career in acting. She wanted to pursue acting upon graduation. However, Hollywood can be difficult to get into therefore Renee decided to stay in Texas and audition for roles in Houston. At the time, she was able to land roles in films like Reality Bites (1994), and Empire Records (1995). Matthew McConaughey (another Hollywood rising star) was her close friend when she was on set of Texas Chainsaw Massacre II: The Next Generation (1994). McConaughey was working on an idea at the time which Renee was interested in. She auditioned for, and won the role in the movie Love and .45 (1994) that received her enough praise from critics that she decided to relocate to Los Angeles. She was then offered a role in The Whole Wide World (1996) and it gave her the first major break. Cameron Crowe was busy casting his next film which was Jerry Maguire (1996),starring Tom Cruise. Crowe was considering such actresses like Cameron Diaz, Bridget Fonda, Winona Ryder, and Marisa Tomei, when he heard of Zellweger's performance in The Whole Wide World (1996). The audition was conducted by Zellweger to be sure the actor was in fact Dorothy Boyd. Renee continued her great success in small independent films. She received further praise from critics and felt assured that she was in a position to return to big-budget Hollywood films. Meryl Streep was the co-star in One True Thing (1998). Also, she acted in Me, Myself & Irene (2000), opposite Jim Carrey, and soon after, she began to date Jim Carrey. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001).
