Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. Her family moved abroad when she was only three years old. Summer attended American and British schools as her family moved abroad. They returned home to Pasadena, California just shy of her fourteenth birthday. Summer was fascinated by the thought that she would one day be an actor since the age five years old began her first acting class when she was 14. Nine months later, she signed with an agent and a manager , and started to follow her career full-time. She is currently pursuing her degree at the college level in her spare time. She was one of the young stars featured in Vanity fair's August 2008 cover issue, "Hollywood’s New Wave: Hollywood's Hottest Kids in Hollywood". Bishil started taking acting classes when she was 14 years old. Within a year, she was contracted to an agency and manager. Bishil started her career on the Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks. After that she was offered the contract of a manager and an agency. Her most memorable role came in the film of Alan Ball, Towelhead. It is an adaptation of the novel with the same name. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the most authentic in a film that in spite of its noble intentions, seems completely fake and somewhat embarrassing, as an extended PSA about inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss, who writes for several Los Angeles newspapers, states that Bishil, "...is one of the finest natural actors to come out in recent years." In the September 12 Los Angeles Times review, Gary Goldstein stated that Summer Bishil who is the "...newcomer, gives an intense and thrilling performance in the role of Jasira. In 2009 she filmed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over movie starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Jay Reiner, Associated Press, appreciated her performance. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel was never made.
